Awaiting Baby Doula

About Jordanne

My name is Jordanne Ruff and I am the mother of two little girls, an LPN, and a CD DONA birth Doula. I feel that my life is enriched by each and every birth I attend and every family I am privileged enough to work with.

In my recent search for more emotionally fulfilling work, I attended a Doula workshop in labour and delivery support. As an LPN it is very rewarding for me to be able to take a step back from providing clinical care and focus so much more on the sentimental aspects of these events. It is also amazing to see a woman take charge over her birth experience and make choices based on her and her family's specific needs. As a member of nursing culture, I also find this work enables me to maintain empathy for patients, which can be a day to day struggle.

I am continuing on this path and becoming a child birth educator. After sitting in on childbirth classes before the birth of my first child and then again as part of my Doula certification for DONA International, I believe that I could do this work and do it well. All of the training I have had up to this point has included education of others and I find this to be an enjoyable aspect of my work. I have the ability to give people good information, assess their understanding of it, and help them to make decisions that are right for them.

In educating families about pregnancy, birth, childcare and postpartum care, childbirth educators are doing a great service to these families, heath care and future generations. Over the last two years I have come to be very passionate about birth, families, breastfeeding, infant care and the ability to enable others to make informed choices about the care they receive.
